Freehand Books has acquired Canadian English-language rights to Sharon Butala’s short-story collection Season of Fury and Wonder. The collection, which centres on the lives of older women, was previously published by Coteau Books before the press closed. It was a finalist for the Rogers Writers’ Trust Fiction Prize in 2019, and is a finalist for The City of Calgary W.O. Mitchell Book Prize and the Georges Bugnet Award for Fiction. The deal was arranged by Marilyn Biderman at the Transatlantic Agency.
