As a special for Valentine’s Day, The Missouri Review interviewed Mikka about her essay, “Kurt Vonnegut Lives on Tinder,” first published by the journal and collected in her book, Modern Fables.
Mikka, from the interview: “But honestly, I feel more hopeful about dating apps than I do otherwise, despite the experiences I write about in the essay. We have a much greater opportunity to find love outside our own enclaves than at any point in history. In the essay, I do pit fate against technology. I tend to see the digital as the opposite of the real. I don’t know why I persist in believing that what happens online is somehow less real than what happens at the swimming pool.”
